In anticipation of Kazakhstan’s Independence Day, the leadership and staff of “Almaty Resort” visited war veterans to pay tribute to their heroic contributions.

Balykbay Iskak, turning 100 this month, met visitors in silence due to his advanced age, having lost his sight and hearing. His family proudly recounted his heroic journey: a native of Kegen district, he served in the 115th Rifle Division, liberating Europe and celebrating Victory Day in Austria. Post-war, he served in the Far East and dedicated his life to law enforcement. Honored with the Order of Glory III Class and other military awards, his legacy lives on through his numerous descendants.

Lyubov Nikolaevna Gorkovskaya, born in 1925 in Ukraine’s Luhansk region, now bedridden, still radiates wisdom and strength. She served as a radio operator on the First Ukrainian Front, participating in the liberation of Sevastopol, Belarus, and the Baltic States. Post-war, she worked at “Kazakhfilm” and raised two children. Her courage is immortalized in her well-deserved military awards.

Anatoly Nazarovich Popov, 98, a native of Kaskelen, grew emotional recounting his youth. A radio operator on the 2nd Baltic Front, he pursued a post-war career in medicine, dedicating over 30 years to healthcare in Kazakhstan. Surrounded by his proud family, he expressed gratitude, saying, “Your attention and memory mean the most to me.”

Ivan Matveyevich Begunov, 99, met guests with a modest smile. Born in Zhytomyr, he fought as a machine gunner in the 228th Guards Rifle Regiment, covering infantry advances. Decorated with the Order of the Red Banner and the Medal “For Courage,” his greatest reward today is the love of his large family.

As a token of appreciation, the “Almaty Resort” team presented the veterans with gifts, wishing them health and longevity.

“To build a bright future, we must remember the past. Our deepest respect to these heroes,” said Saltanat Beysembayeva, Deputy Director for Medical Rehabilitation. She emphasized that such visits are regularly held to ensure veterans feel the care and gratitude they so richly deserve.
